In this video three leading UK coaches discuss the basics of building rapport which they agree is a fundamental requirement for a coaching relationship to function effectively. The discussion is structured around the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) core competence standards statements. Focussed listening with clear intent to build rapport is agreed as key to the relationship as is the ability to match the speed and type of language used. Interestingly the ability to disagree is recognised as potentially a positive sign that rapport has been established.
